Veel van mijn ideeën hebben raakvlakken met de Japanse Nerikome techniek, met vormen die je ook in de natuur en geologie terugziet. Het bewerken van meerdere lagen gekleurde klei geven het keramiek allerlei bijzondere patronen en structuren.

Ik gebruik hiervoor pure pigmenten. Dit proces van inkleuren is belangrijk onderdeel van de productie. Vaak worden in keramiek glazuren en engobes gebruikt om het oppervlak van de gebakken klei te decoreren. Bij Nerikome komt de kleur vanuit de klei zelf, wat het werk een extra dimensie geeft. Dit wordt vaak goed zichtbaar wanneer de lagen gekleurde klei worden bewerkt, bijvoorbeeld door het wegsnijden van bepaalde stukken.

Dit proces is intensief en ook heel spannend, alsof je kleine wonderen ontdekt met je eigen handen. Naast deze techniek ben ik ook dol op stralende glazuren, en ik hoop al mijn ontdekkingen met jullie te delen op Bright & Bounty in de toekomst!

All Bright & Bounty’s products are unique and made with love and attention. I draw a lot of ideas from Japanese Neriage or Nerikome technique, and here find parallels with shapes seen in nature and geology. The merging of different kinds of coloured clay creates the most amazing patterns and structures.

The use of pure pigments and the process of colouring is an important part of production. Usually in ceramics glazing or egobes are used for colouring or decorating the surface of clay objects. In neriage or nerikome the colour comes from the clay itself. This adds an extra dimension to the work, often visual after manipulating the layers or cutting away clay mass.

This process is challenging as well as very exciting, like unveiling small treasures with my own hands. Next to this technique I am a complete sucker for vibrant glazes, and I hope to share all my discoveries with you on Bright and Bounty in the future.
